DescriptionA magnetic Skyrmion is a twisted arrangement of the tiny magnets inside a magnetic material, so that each magnet points in a different direction.
A magnetic Skyrmion behaves like a nano-sized particle and has potential technological applications to memory storage devices. The idea is that data is stored as a magnetic pattern encoded in the positions of the magnetic Skyrmions. The project is a study of the mathematical description of magnetic Skyrmions. This involves writing down the equations that model the tiny magnets inside the material and finding the solutions of these equations that describe magnetic Skyrmions. A small amount of python programming will be required, mainly to plot the solutions and create images of the magnetic Skyrmions.
PrerequisitesNone.ResourcesDuring the last ten years there have been hundreds of articles written about various aspects of magnetic Skyrmions. A few examples are, here, here and here.
