Maybe this is a better one. What do you think?
John
Dear Ser,
What do you think about this pair of headshots of us?

Dear Caroline and Ser,
I have just been through the paper. It is looking in much better shape. Thanks, Caroline for your work on it. I sorted out the references.
My only other comment is that the place in the Riley complement where we get knot/link complements is definitely where tr(V_{p/q})=+2. Because of the form of V_{p/q} as a product of two parabolics each with trace +2, it can never equal -I. This is a simple matrix exercise.
See you tomorrow.
All the best,
John

Hi Caroline,
Thanks so much, and thanks so much for editing all those portions on the continued fractions and the Birman Series parts, they look much clearer. The figure for the continued fractions look great to me and has all the necessary annotations that makes it very clear. There is one small part where you said start with the two triangles with vertices at \infty, 0 and 1 but it is actually only one triangle, the generation of vertices on the negative real line comes from using -1/0 to represent \infty.
—- this is a left over from a previous version it should say
A triangle as you say
Also, I did notice that you added a couple more references, it's easy to get the correct ones from mathscinet, but maybe I will leave that to after our discussion of what to leave in and out.
One other thing is that the convex hull picture
may be due to Jeff Brock rather than Yair Minsky, we should check.
— it is definitely Yair it is in Indra

See you both tomorrow.

Hi again. I have done a bit more cleaning up and will now leave it until we talk. I put in red various bits I thought we could easily cut and I am sure we can find more if needed. I added a few references so we will have to take some out, we can also discuss that. Also how to get permissions for the pictures. Please take out the commented out bits if you are satisfied.
Look forward to talking on Wed. Best, Caroline

I have done quite a lot of work on the article recently, in particular to the sections on cntd fractions 2.1, the proof of BS theorem in 3.1, and all of 4 on pleating rays and the slices. In most places I left the previous text in commented out, but if you are satisfied it can be removed. It has got a bit long and I have to read it through carefully but I am sure some bits can be cut. If I have time I’ll work on this tomorrow.
We have to discuss credits when we talk.

Dear Caroline,
I noticed that after my previous message the limit set had rotated. Thanks!
I have now added a reference to Steve’s paper and explained lines of minima.
I’m just looking again at our Bending Formulae paper – it is indeed very nice, I had forgotten how much.
I’ll see if I can add it in.
All the best,
John

John,
It should be horizontal, take another look I thought I had just done it.
To change the angle where it says [width=7cm] or such like you can add [width=7cm, angle = 90]
I altered the sizing of the Bolza figure to make it fit properly in the column.
I added/changed the other figures I said I would and also rearranged their positions a bit. Also added a bit about my early work— maybe you can get the citation into the correct form.
I have a bit more reading through to see if I want to make any more changes, hopefully by tomorrow.
I noticed that we are supposed to provide written evidence of permission for all pictures— what a pain— I will consider this and maybe do some rewording to reduce the hassle. Anyway can do that later.
Best, Caroline

Dear Ser and Caroline,
I have cropped the Bolza figure. I also see we have the Maskit limit set picture. I think it should be rotated by ninety degrees, so it runs horizontally not vertically. Am I right? I’m not sure how to do that….

John

I’m trying to,clean the article,up to closer to final shape, making some of the changes we had discussed. In particular, some things were removed by commenting out, but we can put them back if necessary.
Best,
Ser

Hi Caroline,
Feel free to look, it is constantly being updated on overleaf, of course, you can just download a pdf file and look at that. Shall we meet 3 Aug the? Any preferences as far as time? I usually have dinner around 6 to 7 (11 to noon your time), before or after is ok for me.
Best,
Ser

I could do either of those days, with a mild preference for the 3rd. Any reasonable time. I haven’t had a chance to look at the version you just sent yet, should I look now or wait until you tell me?

Hi Caroline,
We should be able to finish a first draft of the article by next week, should we three zoom sometime next week, 3 or 4 Aug. Both John and myself are relatively free these two days, so let us know what day and time is good.

Ser
