LMS DURHAM SYMPOSIUM
Mathematics and Physics of
Higher-Dimensional Solitons
20th - 28th July 1998 University
of Durham
The aim of the symposium is to bring together researchers from many diverse
areas such as: BPS solitons
(eg monopoles), soliton scattering, baby-skyrmions and applications
to solid-state physics, skyrmions and applications to nuclear physics,
Hopfions (knot-like solitons having nonzero Hopf number, with possible
applications in cosmology), non-topological solitons, and solitons in integrable
systems..
We expect most participants to arrive on Monday 20th July and
the lecture programme starting
in the morning of 21st July.
Financial Arrangements
The LMS has provided with funds which allow us to cover the accommodation
expenses
of the invited participants and make a contribution to the travel costs
which in some cases is no
more than the registration fee.
Travel
Durham is conveniently located on the east-coast railway line, for which
time-tables are available
on-line. A map of Durham showing the location of the railway station, the
Mathematics
department and Grey College can be found here.
Accommodation
All nonlocal participants will be accommodated in rooms (with en-suite
facilities) in

College . Participants are expected to arrive on Monday 20th July (in
time for dinner at 19.00)
