Welcome to the 23rd International Couette-Taylor Workshop (ICTW 2025), to be held in Durham City, England, UK, and hosted by Durham University on July 14th-16th, 2025! Download flyer here
The International Couette-Taylor Workshop is one of the major activities in fluid mechanics, founded in Leeds, UK, in 1979, almost half a century after G.I. Taylor's influential paper, "Stability of a viscous liquid contained between two rotating cylinders" (Phil. Trans. Roy. Soc. A, 223, 1923). The centennial anniversary of Taylor's work was celebrated at the 22nd ICTW in Barcelona in 2023.
This esteemed biennial conference, promoting a rich exchange of knowledge and ideas in fluid mechanics, has been successfully hosted in various global locations, including:
The ICTW 2025 will be held at Durham University in Durham, United Kingdom, marking the conference's return to the UK after 14 years since the 17th edition in Leeds in 2011. The 23rd edition, organized by representatives from Northumbria, Newcastle, and Durham Universities, will contribute to strengthening partnerships and fostering academic growth in the Northeast of England. This event will offer a unique opportunity for knowledge exchange with leading experts in theoretical, computational, and experimental fluid dynamics, turbulence, geo- and astrophysical fluid dynamics, non-Newtonian fluids, magneto- and electrohydrodynamics, mechanical engineering, spaceflight, and aerodynamics.
Following the structure of former editions of the ICTW, the conference will be organized as a series of selected keynote talks, oral and poster presentations, covering experimental, theoretical and computational investigations on hydrodynamic instabilities. The scope of the conference will include (among other topics):
ICTW 2025 aims to elevate academic excellence and enrich research-based education by providing a platform for young researchers, including PhD students and postdocs, to present their findings and receive feedback from experienced scientists. With high anticipation from the UK fluid mechanics community after a 14-year hiatus, an exceptional turnout of UK university speakers is expected. Both early career researchers and established academic staff will benefit from networking with top-tier scholars from the UK and abroad.
We look forward to welcoming you to ICTW 2025 in Durham, where cutting-edge research and academic excellence will converge to advance the field of fluid mechanics!
