Yorkshire and Durham Geometry Days

A Yorkshire and Durham Geometry Day will be held on Wednesday 19 June 2013 at Durham University.

All talks will take place in CM 221 in the Department of Mathematical Sciences.

The timetable is as follows:

10:30 Coffee Mathematics Department Common Room (Room CM211)

11.00 Tommy Murphy (Universite Libre de Bruxelles)

"Rigidity results for complex Riemannian foliations and nearly-Kahler manifolds"

12:00 Lunch Mathematics Department Common Room (Room CM211)

1.30 Andrea Malchiodi (Warwick)

"A positive mass theorem for CR manifolds"

2.45 Lamia Alqahtani (Leeds)

"Ricci Magnetic Geodesic Flow on Soliton Moduli Spaces"

3.15 Jonas Nordstroem (Lund University)

"Riemannian Lie groups with no complex-valued left-invariant harmonic morphisms"

3.45 Tea Break Mathematics Department Common Room (Room CM211)

4.30 Hans - Joachim Hein (Imperial College)

"Asymptotically cylindrical Calabi-Yau manifolds" Abstract: I will discuss complete noncompact Ricci-flat Kähler manifolds that are asymptotic to cylinders at infinity. The main result roughly states that every such space can be written as a compact projective algebraic variety minus an effective anticanonical divisor with trivial normal bundle. The converse statement holds as well. Joint work with Mark Haskins and Johannes Nordstroem (not to be mistaken with previous speaker).

There will be an early evening meal in Durham, for all who are able to stay.

Travel: Durham is easy to get to by car and train. Click here for relevant information.

A taxi from Durham station takes about 10 minutes and costs about 6 quid. If you intend to come to this meeting, please inform one of the Durham organisers, who will arrange for lunch to be available in the Common Room of the Department If you intend to drive to Durham, please inform one of the Durham organisers, who will arrange for a car parking permit for you.

Yorkshire and Durham Geometry Days are jointly organised by the Universities of Durham, Leeds and York, and occur at a frequency of four meetings per academic year. Financial support is provided by the London Mathematical Society through a Scheme 3 grant, currently administered by the University of York. A record of previous meetings may be found here.

The local organizers are:

John Bolton & Wilhelm Klingenberg, University of Durham

Martin Speight & John Wood, University of Leeds

Ian McIntosh & Chris Wood, University of York
