# Diagnostic test and BUYS

* Please sign up if you have not already
* Take the diagnostic test as soon as possible if you have not already, ideally by the end of this week

* 60%-80%  OK but consider BUYS support classes on things you do badly on
  * 40%-60% Strongly consider BUYS
  * <40% try again and go to BUYS

# After induction
* Week 1
  * Lectures start Mon Oct 7th (9am!) including Programming Practical Classes
   (Prof.Peter Craig, Dr.Sam Fearn)

* Week 2
  * Tutorials begin on Oct 14th. For core modules the tutor will contact you about how to hand in homework.
  * BUYS/Support Classes start Mon. 12, Tue. 3pm. (more info Dr. Sophy Darwin)

* **We are introducing e-Assessments (Bear with us)**

* **Why?**
  * More immediate feedback on "practical" skills
  * Frees up time to work on developing mathematical thinking

* **How?**
  * ~ every other week's set homework in LA and Calculus
  * Deadlines usually Sunday Midnights

* **5 compulsory modules:**
  * Calc, Lin Alg, Analysis,  Prob and Stats, Prog + Dyn

* **1 extra module:**
  * Discrete, or any other "open" module of your choice

# Extra modules - registration

* Module registration is a two stage process
  1. Select modules on DUO using "Banner Self-Service"
  2. Modules then subject to approval (or not) by department

* Some departments require you to talk to a member of staff beforehand!

  * General academic advice

  * First point of contact in dept for problems
  * Reference letters, departmental award
