Project IV

Further Topics in Decision Theory

Prof F.P.A. Coolen

Description

The module Decision Theory III has provided in introduction to a range of methods in the wide topic area `Decision Theory', including Utility Theory, Game Theory, Bargaining and Group Decisions. Effectively, all kind of scenarios where decisions need to be made taking into account uncertainties and values of outcomes fit in this topic area.

This project provides the opportunity to discover more of this exciting area of mathematics. A range of topics can be studied in detail. These can range from purely theoretical topics to real world applications, and they can continue any of the topics introduced in Decision Theory III or topics which are new to you, e.g. Adversarial Risk Analysis. While the easy option would be for me to suggest a topic, and this is of course fine to me, it is nicest if the student comes up with a topic of their interest!

Further information

You will find very (too..) much information online when googling for `Decision Theory', specific topic areas or similar key words, and there are many relevant books in the library and journals (online via the Durham University Library). It would be best to contact me (best by email) to discuss how specific areas of your interest can be linked to suitable topics.
